Alpena County Jail Roster
The official online path is the sheriff's Corrections & Jail page, where the Current Inmates link routes to the vendor-hosted Alpena County JailTracker roster. The sheriff describes the roster as the place to search for information about current inmates. It is the first place to check for people booked into the Alpena County Sheriff's Office & Jail after an arrest by sheriff deputies, city police, Michigan State Police, or another local agency.
The roster does not replace every other records source. MDOC OTIS does not contain county jail inmates or people sentenced to jail only, and the county roster does not serve as the state prison locator. Federal and immigration custody use BOP, USMS, or ICE channels. If the roster fails to load, shows an error, or does not list a person who may be newly booked, call 989-354-9830 and use the corrections option.
Use the Alpena County Inmate Roster
Start with the person's full name. The research could not render the live roster profile because the public page returned a Blazor loading shell in the static environment, but the official bundle confirms name search, current/released status, agency context, captcha support, and profile fields for charges, bonds, warrants, images, and holds. Use the roster as a current-custody tool, then verify important decisions through the jail.
- Open the sheriff Corrections & Jail page and choose Current Inmates, or open the JailTracker roster directly.
- Search by last name first. Add the first name if too many people match.
- Complete a captcha if the roster presents one.
- Confirm the agency context is Alpena County, Michigan.
- Open the matching profile if the public view exposes one, then compare name, booking date, status, charges, bond, and arresting agency.
- Call the jail if the roster does not load or if the person may have been transferred or released.
Alpena County Roster Search Fields
The field table below reflects the official roster link and WebAssembly field extraction. Because the public profile did not render in the research environment, these fields should be read as supported by the JailTracker system rather than a promise that every field is visible for every Alpena County inmate record.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Unspecified | Bundle strings include lastNameSearchText and OffenderNameSearch. |
| First Name | Text | Unspecified | Bundle strings include firstNameSearchText. |
| Search Type / Current | Toggle or dropdown | Unspecified | Bundle strings include Current, ReleasedSinceValue, and ShowCurrentInmatesOnly. |
| Captcha | Image/text validation | Conditional | CaptchaRequired, CaptchaImage, CaptchaCode, and validation strings were present. |
| Agency / Facility | Route or dropdown | Unspecified | The official URL carries the Alpena_County_MI agency route. |
Alpena County Inmate Profile Fields
An Alpena County inmate record may include several kinds of information if the jail's public configuration allows it. Some fields relate to booking. Some relate to court or warrant routing. Others are internal model fields that may not be shown to the public. Booking charges should not be treated as convictions, and a bond amount should not be treated as a release guarantee when another hold is present.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Image / OffenderImage | Booking-image support; the model also supports hiding inmate images unless logged on. |
| OriginalBookDateTime | Original booking date and time. |
| ChargeDescription / ChargeStatus | Charge text and status information supported by the model. |
| CaseNo / CourtName / CourtDate | Court routing, case number, and hearing data where configured. |
| BondType / BondAmount | Bond fields, with separate jail and court confirmation still needed. |
| ArrestingAgency / ArrestDate | Agency and date fields tied to the arrest event. |
| Holds / HoldTypeName | Other-agency, warrant, probation, parole, or court-order hold details. |
| FinalReleaseDateTime | Release timestamp if released records are included in the local configuration. |
When to Call Alpena County Jail
The roster is the first channel, not the only channel. Call the sheriff and jail at 989-354-9830 when the roster is down, when a booking is very recent, when a name search is ambiguous, when a person may have been released, or when a medical concern should be routed to the jail nurse option. The sheriff phone menu lists Option 1 for front desk/general questions, Option 2 for deputy or dial-by-name in existing cases, Option 3 for administration, Option 4 for corrections, and Option 7 for the jail nurse.
The county sheriff contact page shows the jail address, phone menu, fax number, public hours, and jail contact form path.
Those contact details are useful when a JailTracker roster search is inconclusive or when a recent booking has not appeared online yet.

Alpena, MI 49707
989-354-9830

In-person questions go to the same sheriff and jail campus. For records not displayed on the roster, use the county FOIA process instead of relying on a phone call alone.
FOIA for Alpena County Booking Records
Alpena County's FOIA request page says written requests may be submitted for public records in the possession of county departments. A request must describe the record with enough detail for the county to find it, including names, dates, department, and the type of record. Submission channels include mail, fax, email, or hand delivery. The county must respond within five business days unless a ten-business-day extension is needed.
Use FOIA for jail records not visible online, past booking records, police incident reports, or booking images. The county can charge fees for search, review, copying, mailing, and supervised inspection when allowed by law. If a request involves an active investigation, juvenile matter, protected medical information, safety risk, or other restricted record, an exemption may apply.
Booking Process in Alpena County
The county does not publish a full booking manual, but the jail location slideshow identifies booking, prebooking, medical, main corrections, flex dorm, and cells. The practical process after a local arrest is transport to the Alpena County Sheriff's Office & Jail, prebooking, identity checks, property handling, medical and mental-health screening, classification, housing, phone or communication access, and court or bond routing. Michigan administrative rules require medical, dental, and mental-health screening of all inmates by trained staff designated by the facility administrator.
The 88th District Court handles the start of adult criminal proceedings in Alpena County. It has jurisdiction to issue arrest and search warrants, set bail, accept bond, conduct misdemeanor and felony arraignments, and preside over felony preliminary examinations. That means a jail record and court record often appear close together, but they answer different questions.
Alpena County Jail Visits
The Alpena County visits page describes non-contact video visitation. Visitors need state or government-issued photo identification, proper attire, and compliance with jail rules. Personal belongings are limited to picture ID and keys unless jail staff allow more. Visitors can be searched under jail policy, and refusal means denial of entry. Food, drugs, drinks, smoking, personal contact, and disruptive behavior are not allowed in the visitation area.
| Visit Type | Schedule / Limit | Cost | Rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Onsite video kiosk | Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., excluding holidays; one onsite visit per inmate per week | No cost | 25-minute video visit; ID required; first come first served, online reservation encouraged. |
| Remote video | One remote visit per inmate per day; available during holidays and weekends | Fee not published by county | Recorded and monitored; same behavior rules apply. |
| Attorney visits | Not published separately | Not published | Attorneys should contact the jail for current rules. |
Mail Money and Phone Records
Mail rules are unusually specific. The inmate mail page says letters should be addressed to the inmate name, Alpena County Sheriff's Office, 4900 M32 W, Alpena, MI 49707. No inmate number is needed. Mail must go through USPS. Incoming mail is opened and inspected, and letters without a return address are discarded. Glitter, stickers, crayon, colored pencil, unknown odors, unknown substances, extra stamps, extra envelopes, extra paper, and correspondence with a crime victim are not accepted.
| Service | Provider / Channel | Fee / Limit |

| Money order | Mailed to the inmate | County does not publish a money-order fee. |
| Lobby kiosk deposit | Jail lobby kiosk | Commissary page lists $3 cash fee and $3.00 or 10 percent credit/debit charge. |
| Online deposit or bond | JailATM link from county commissary page | Vendor fees apply. |
| Phone communications | Combined Public Communications / InmateSales.com | County lists 877-998-5678; per-minute pricing not published locally. |
MDOC BOP ICE and VINE
Use the right system for the custody level. The Alpena County roster covers local jail custody. MDOC OTIS covers state prisoners, parolees, probationers, absconders, and some discharges, but not county jail inmates or jail-only sentences. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. ICE searches use the ICE detainee locator, which requires JavaScript and can be searched by A-number or by name, country of birth, and birth date.
| Custody Question | Where to Look |
|---|---|
| Current local jail booking | Alpena County JailTracker roster and jail phone line. |
| Sentenced Michigan prison custody | MDOC OTIS offender search. |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator. |
| Immigration detention | ICE locator and USAGov guidance. |
| Custody alerts | Michigan VINE, for notifications rather than full record copies. |
Note: Confirm custody with the jail before sending money or scheduling a visit, especially after a court date or possible transfer.
